Volunteer Opportunities
Current volunteer recruitment priorities:
Broadview-Thomson PreK-8: Volunteer in our 1st-grade classroom and support students in small groups or individually according to students’ needs (mathematics, reading, phonics, and socio-emotional learning). Available Volunteer Shifts (choose 2-3 hrs at a time): Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:40-11:05 a.m. or 12:15-12:55 p.m. ; Wednesdays 9:30-10:15 a.m. or 11:25 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Location: 13052 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133
Rising Star Elementary School: Support elementary school students one-on-one or in small groups! Read and confer with students below grade-level benchmarks, focusing on building confidence and comprehension using curriculum strategies focused on visualizing, self- and text-to-text connections, wondering, inferences, and more. Through this work, you will foster literacy skills and build student confidence and enthusiasm for reading. Our Reading and Math Academic Intervention Specialist will match you with students in different grades, but you will work with the same students every week. - Science Classroom Volunteer: volunteer directly with students, helping analyze student data to maximize learning and aiding with students’ social and emotional needs. Volunteers must like working with pre-teens, communicate well, and be able to help students with their writing. Available Volunteer Shifts (choose 2-3 hrs at a time): Mon-Fri 8:45 am – 4 pm
- 6th Grade Math support volunteer: Encourage mathematical thinking through questioning and mathematical discourse among small groups to discuss their thinking as they explore 6th grade math. Support students working on independent practice while they hone skills and develop understanding around 6th grade standards. Volunteers will learn common misconceptions students have with certain topics in math and help students work through those misconceptions to develop fluency and applications to the real world. Available Volunteer Shifts (choose 2-3 hrs at a time): Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday from 1:00 pm-3:45 pm

Chief Sealth High School: Seeking current college attendees or recent graduates to support the World Languages Classroom as students learn Japanese. Facilitate small group discussions and assist with assignments. No Japanese knowledge is necessary. Available Volunteer Shifts (choose 2-3 hrs at a time): Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri – 8:50 am to 3:40 pm (except 12:45-2:45)
Wednesday 8:50 am to 2:25 pm. Location: 2600 SW Thistle St, Seattle, WA 98126
Volunteer requirements:
- A positive attitude toward learning, diversity, and students.
- Open to feedback and coaching.
- Patience and empathy for students while holding high expectations.
- An ability to interact effectively with diverse student populations.
- Commitment to your student(s).
It takes time to build rapport with your students before you can be effective in supporting them academically. This is why we require a minimum three-month commitment of at least one weekly volunteer shift.
